In celebration of Women’s History Month, Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation honors all women who have served our great nation. Their work to create change has allowed future generations of women to achieve tremendous success without resistance.
Women have been a part of the war effort since the Revolutionary War, but in the early days of our nation they had to disguise themselves as men. When they were accepted into the military, women were given auxiliary roles. As the methods of warfare changed in the late 20th century, the government began to realize that gender matters less on the battlefield.
Fallen Patriots scholar John Hutchison’s mom, Jeanne Hutchison, served in the Army and sadly passed away. It means so much to John to know that his mother served and sacrificed for the freedom of all Americans.
“As a small percentage of the military, unfortunately, women are still fighting for equality when they can do the job the same, and in my mother’s case, better,” explained John.
Statistics from 2016 show more than 214,000 women are enlisted and active in the armed services with over 1,853,690 women veterans. America’s military women serve so that we can live free. Fallen Patriots salutes these women, past and present, during Women’s History Month.
