Two months before her ninth birthday, Courtney M.’s father was killed in action in an accident in Iraq. She believes her dad would be proud of her for graduating high school and continuing her education. With Fallen Patriots’ support, Courtney has overcome tremendous challenges and achieved a noteworthy milestone in her life.

Courtney began her college journey at a four-year university. Two terms later, she found that she was happier at a school that focused on careers, and she enrolled in a medical assisting program. Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation has been there to support her every step of the way.

A college education is the single, most important gift Fallen Patriots can provide to children of the fallen. Military families who lose a loved one in the line of duty typically face an average cost gap of $32,000 for a four-year college education.

“Fallen Patriots has helped me tremendously,” explained Courtney. “There have been times where if it wasn’t for Fallen Patriots, I don’t know how I would have gotten by.”

Courtney believes in never giving up. Her drive to succeed and honor her fallen parent’s legacy is the foundation of Fallen Patriots’ mission to make college affordable and achievable for all children of the fallen. Courtney is a sophomore at Pioneer Pacific College in the Medical Assisting Program. Her goal is to get into nursing school and become an ER nurse.

“I have always been fascinated by the health field,” explained Courtney. “The way the nurses and techs help patients feel so comfortable in an environment that can be truly traumatizing, amazes me.”

Scholarships and financial assistance, funded by loyal donors and corporate sponsors, have assisted nearly 1,000 bright and motivated students throughout their undergraduate studies. Courtney is a shining example of how honoring legacy results in inspiring success.
