At 1,600 Pounds, This Is Officially the World's Largest Christmas Stocking
Santa's got his work cut out for him this year!
The world's largest Christmas stocking, weighing in at 1,600 pounds, has been verified by the Guinness Book of World Records.
The 139-foot-tall, 74.5-foot-wide stocking was made of 1,260 hand-crafted blankets from knitters and crocheters from all over the country. The blankets were assembled together in Fayetteville, N.C., with yarn from Caron United.
The company, which is based in Washington, N.C., donated part of the proceeds from yarn sales to provide more than $100,000 for college scholarships for the children of fallen U.S. troops.
Janet Smith, spokesperson for Caron United, told Jenna Lee on "Happening Now" that the company wanted to do something for a charity, so when they heard about Children of Fallen Patriots, they knew they had found a great partner.
Smith revealed that they received sections for the stocking from all 50 states, four Canadian provinces and even one from Ireland!
She explained that everyone shipped their blankets to North Carolina, where they were assembled over the course of 40 days.
"When you're looking at the stocking, you can see the individuality and really passion that the knitters and crocheters showed toward the Children of Fallen Patriots."
