Fallen Patriots Supports Military Children Who Have Lost a Parent in the Line of Duty

(June 9, 2020) – Children of Fallen Patriots, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide college scholarships and educational counseling to military children who have lost a parent in the line of duty, congratulates its 223 college graduates of the 2020 academic year. Since 2002, Fallen Patriots has provided more than $38 million in total assistance, including college scholarships and educational counseling to over 1,800 military children.

“After our nation remembered our fallen heroes this Memorial Day, Children of Fallen Patriots is proud to congratulate the 223 students from the class of 2020 whose education we have had the humble privilege to support over the years. These students have faced immense adversity in their lives, losing a parent in the line of duty, yet still they persevered to achieve their academic goals,” remarked Cynthia Kim, Co-Founder of Children of Fallen Patriots.

The COVID-19 pandemic has also presented many roadblocks to the Fallen Patriots student community. Almost 50% of Fallen Patriots students and parents have lost their jobs, and 70% say their colleges are not providing any financial relief from the pandemic.

“Thanks to the generosity of supporters around the country, Children of Fallen Patriots is able to continue giving children across the country peace of mind by providing scholarships toward their college and vocational studies. We believe a college education is the single most important gift we can give these children, and it is one of the best ways we can honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our country.” continued Kim. '

Children of Fallen Patriots reports that nearly 20,000 dependents have been left behind by troops fallen in the line of duty over the past 35 years. Many surviving families struggle to make ends meet with 63% of surviving spouses making less than $50,000 per year.

With no central repository of information from which to find these children, the organization works to find each and every one of these children to assist them in their growing success.
