In 2008, Janna M.'s father, Staff Sergeant Shaun Jeffrey W. was tragically killed by the blast of an improvised explosive device (IED) while serving his country in Iraq. After losing her family's primary breadwinner Janna's dream of earning her college degree seemed almost impossible. That is when Children of Fallen Patriots stepped in to help Janna, a Gold Star child, reach her educational goals without the burden of student loans.
Scholarships for Children of Fallen Military Make Life-Changing Difference
With the help of Fort Campbell Survivor Outreach Services, Janna and her mother were contacted and given resources to cope with their loss. The survivor outreach service informed Janna’s mother about Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation and their mission to provide college scholarships and educational counseling to children who have lost a military parent in the line of duty. Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation actively seeks out the families and children affected by military loss. To date there are nearly 25,000 military children eligible for scholarship grants and education counseling.
The positive support Janna received from Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation has allowed her to attend college and pursue her dream. Janna, a freshman at the University of Kentucky, noted how at ease she felt during the application process with Fallen Patriots thanks to the quick and attentive response she received from the friendly staff. Janna received a scholarship for her college education and a new computer to help with her studies.

Janna will carry the memories of her brave father with her as she embarks on her pursuit of earning her Doctorate in Psychology. The impact Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, and the reason we serve, will be SSG Shaun Jeffrey W.’s legacy carried on through his daughter’s successful future.
