Kara's dad, LCDR Michael Joseph P., M.D., served in the U.S. Navy for 14 years, completing an orthopedic residency and a spine surgery fellowship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. When Kara was only 7 years old, her dad passed away.

“One of the fondest memories that I have with my Dad, is when he would bring my sister and me, to our family’s favorite Chinese restaurant,” explained Kara. “This familiarity and distant memory still bring a smile to my heart. We continued the tradition after my Dad passed away - whenever we were feeling down, celebrating our end-of-the-year report cards, or sometimes ‘just because’... we still love reading our fortunes”

Kara believes her dad would be proud of her for choosing a career where she would be at the service of others. With financial help from Fallen Patriots, Kara plans to be a special education teacher after college. She currently is a freshman at High Point University in North Carolina.

“Thankfully, with the help of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, I was able to purchase a new laptop for college,” explained Kara. “I appreciate all that Fallen Patriots does to encourage and enable gold star children, like my sister and I to fulfill our educational goals.”
