A family trip to Arlington National Cemetery stirred the hearts of second generation Gold Star children into action. After visiting the 624 acres of fallen heroes, the Loos children decided they wanted to do something to honor them, including their grandfather Lt. General Robert Lee Nichols, U.S. Marine Corp.

The kids decided to host a Memorial Day fundraiser at Rectory School with their classmates. They decorated pots and sold red poppies as a symbol of remembrance.

Bill and Erin Loos were touched to see their children making a difference in the community, so they decided to match dollar for dollar whatever was raised.

Together through Facebook, a car show, and a Memorial Day parade – the Pomfret, Connecticut town raised $5,000 for Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation.

The desire to give without expectation is an impressive lesson from these young people. Thank you!
