Information the Foundation Collects
Website Visitors: The Foundation collects only each visitor’s domain name, email address (only for those who communicate with us via email), information regarding which pages of the Foundation website each visitor accesses, and other information volunteered by each visitor, such as survey information and/or site registrations. Visitors are not required to register or to provide any personal information in order to access information on the Foundation’s website.
Enrollees: If you choose to enroll with the Foundation, you may provide us with information such as (i) your name, address, email address, telephone number, social security number, and relationship to the deceased military member; (ii) your child’s (or children’s) name, address, social security number, gender, email address, college plans, and relationship to the deceased military member; and (iii) the deceased military member’s name, social security number, date of birth, date of death, cause of death, military unit, military service, and rank (all of the above being “Personal Information”). Your submission of this information is purely voluntary and is requested by the Foundation only so that it may efficiently identify resources that may be available to you and your family.
The Foundation’s Use of Your Information
Information Collected from Website Visitors: The Foundation uses the information it collects from website visitors only to communicate directly with these visitors and to improve our website and services. The information we collect is used to better understand general site usage patterns and improve website usability and content in order to better serve our visitors’ needs and interests. The Foundation will not sell or share your name, email address, or other personally identifiable information with any third party without your express consent or as required by law. Further, the Foundation does not buy, sell, rent or trade email lists. All email communication efforts we undertake are targeted toward individuals who have opted and agreed to be contacted by us in such manner. If you do not wish to receive email from the Foundation in the future, please let us know by emailing our webmaster at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Educational Counseling and Scholarship Assistance: If you choose to enroll with the Foundation, the Foundation may use the Personal Information you provide to (i) help you identify resources and organizations that may be available to provide your family with various college grants and scholarships, and (ii) enable the Foundation to determine whether it can provide your family with additional financial assistance to supplement any college grants and scholarships that are available to you or to your family. The Foundation will not share your Personal Information with third parties, including third party grant and scholarship organizations, without your consent.
Aggregated Information: The Foundation may remove personally identifying data from the information it collects from its enrollees, contributors, and website visitors and aggregate the remaining information for the purposes of statistical analysis in support of its mission. Where the Foundation believes it will help further its mission, it may disclose this aggregated information, without personally identifying data, to third parties.
Compliance with the Law: The Foundation may disclose Personal Information and other personally identifiable information to appropriate governmental authorities when it believes it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Foundation or its enrollees, or to comply with applicable laws. To the extent permissible by law, the Foundation will notify you before making any such disclosure of your Personal Information or personally identifiable information.
The Foundation’s Commitment to Data Security
The Foundation uses industry-standard security technologies and precautions to keep your Personal Information secure. Access to all Personal Information is restricted to authorized Foundation personnel to prevent unauthorized disclosure, modification, or use.
The Foundation also uses a variety of safeguards to protect the security of your credit card transactions, including encryption, access controls, network firewalls, physical security, and other measures. These measures make it extremely difficult for anyone to intercept the credit card information you send to the Foundation. The Foundation also follows the security requirements mandated by Visa and Master Card as outlined in the PCI Security Standards (https://www.pcicomplianceguide.org/). When the Foundation works with other companies to process credit card transactions, many of those companies use encryption and other security measures and have policies and procedures to ensure they are also compliant with PCI Security Standards.
How you may Review, Change, or Remove your Personal Information
At any time, you may review and change the Personal Information you have provided the Foundation by emailing the webmaster at email@example.com. You may also request that the Foundation permanently remove from its records all Personal Information that you have submitted by emailing the webmaster at firstname.lastname@example.org. Upon receiving your request, the Foundation will permanently remove your Personal Information from the Foundation’s records and will no longer use your Personal Information in any way.
